Teen dies, two others hurt in Route 8 crash

Updated: 05/25/2009 04:39:14 PM EDT TRUMBULL -- A teenager died and his two friends were injured when their car split in half after it careened off Route 8 near Exit 11 and plowed into a tree early Monday. Lucas Ananias, believed to be about 16 and of uncertain address, died about 10 a.m.
Monday in Bridgeport Hospital after being brought there shortly before 1:30 a.m. by the Trumbull Emergency Medical Service. State Police had no other information about the dead teenager in the immediate aftermath of the accident. Ananias was sitting in the front passenger seat of a 1992 Acura Integra driven by Douglas Onorio, 18, of 160 Jewett Avenue, Bridgeport, according to State Police. The car left Route 8 northbound, traveled onto a grassy area near Exit 11, and smashed into a tree. Onorio and another passenger, Sandy Ramirez, 17, of 272 Roosevelt Avenue, Stratford, were taken by Trumbull EMS to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. Onorio is in serious condition from internal injuries, while Ramirez is being treated for facial injuries. The single-car accident is being investigated by Trooper Jamie Hinman. Witnesses are asked to call the State Police at 696-2500.
