On October 6, 2011, Trumbull Center, Long Hill, and Nichols fire departments were dispatched to the rear of 30 Lindeman Drive for smoke coming from the building. First units on scene (N-301) reported a working fire in a 6 bay commercial garage measuring approximately 40 by 120 feet.
Nichols Fire was then dispatched for a RIT assignment as well adding Nichols Truck 303. Nichols 301 began stretching a 2.5" line for suppression. Trumbull Center Engine 101 was originally assigned a reverse lay to get water from a hydrant but changed to involve the full crew to forcing multiple points of entry and searching for the fire. E-101 crew entered the room of fire origin and opened the overhead doors for Engine 301 to position the attack line. Engine 101 crew then opened a man door immediately
adjacent to the fire and exited the structure.
Long Hill 206 dropped the water supply hose from Lindeman drive to engine 301 and their crew pulled a backup line into the facility to assist Nichols 301.
E 101’s crew took a ground ladder and gained access to the facilities roof where they stretched a second line from 301 to stop the fire which was travelling rapidly, consuming the foam and rubber membrane above the metal decking. They were later joined by personnel from LH 209 who had completed the water supply connection via split lay to the hydrant.
Trumbull Center Chief Gratrix and LH Assistant Chief Rausso were the command staff present and managing the fire and roof operations. Firefighters spent some time overhauling the area and then turned the scene over to the Trumbull Fire Marshal's Office for investigation.
