Hurricane Irene swept through Trumbull keeping its firefighters busy for days. Beginning Saturday night through Sunday evening, there were upwards of two dozen Trumbull Center firefighters staffing both fire houses. At anytime, the department's apparatus were ready to roll, fully staffed for any alarm that mayhave come in. All of the alarms the department ran were for trees and wires down, flooded basements, and other storm related emergencies. Thankfully none were serious, no injuries were reported, and no major damage was done to homes or property. The power outages, however, were widespread and kept the calls coming in for days. Overall, Trumbull Center did about 25 calls for service, with approximately 100 calls for service done townwide. The calls continue to come in as power is restored and alarm systems are shorting out. A big thanks to our members that staffed the station during the storm and have continued to respond since.
