1470 Sylvan Avenue Fire, 2.22.2019

On Friday, February 22nd, at approximately 2215 hours Trumbull Center, Nichols and Long Hill (as RIT) were dispatched to 1470 Sylvan Avenue for a reported structure fire. TC Car 1 and LH Car 3 arrived simultaneously and reported a two story wood framed residential dwelling with heavy involvement within the basement, first and second floors. The lone occupant had self-evacuated and immediately reported that there was no one else in the structure. There were areas of structural collapse in the A/B corner and an exterior attack was initiated.

R-100 was first due, quickly establishing a water supply and initiated exterior fire attack. T-304 arrived second due, followed by multiple Long Hill units. All three departments worked aggressively to put multiple hand lines in service, quickly getting water on the fire. Due to the interior structural collapse and building construction challenges, crews were forced to remain on the defensive for an extensive amount of time.

This was the second structure fire within 24 hours in Trumbull Center’s District. Once again, thank you to Nichols and Long Hill for your assistance and hard work. And thank you to Monroe and Shelton for providing coverage for a second night in a row.
