One man suffered burns and two homes were damaged by improper storage of hot ashes over the weekend.

One man suffered burns and two homes were damaged by improper storage of hot ashes over the weekend.

"Sunday morning at 5:49 a.m. the departments responded to a reported structure fire on Elmwood Ave which was caused by ashes placed in a plastic trash can outside the garage but immediately adjacent to the house. The fire caused damage to the interior and exterior of the garage area," said Trumbull Center Fire Chief Ed Gratrix.

Then, at 3:50 p.m., a structure fire started from ashes being left on the enclosed rear porch of the home. "There was smoke damage to the structure and the homeowner had minor burn injuries from attempting to extinguish the fire," Gratrix said.

On January 11th, 2012, Trumbull Center's Firefighter 1 course began with 23 students from all three departments in town. This course lasts for approximately 5 months and includes all of the basic levels of firefighting along with Hazardous Materials Training. The instructors range from volunteers in the department, to career firefighters in the area. It is going to be a fun 5 months with a great group of guys and gals!

Our annual fundraiser has begun! We have over 200 Christmas Trees in fantastic condition ready for your living room! We offer delivery, and all proceeds go to benefit the Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company. Trees are sold at our station 1, 860 White Plains Rd. Hours of operations are:

Thursday & Friday: 6 PM - 9 PM

Saturday: 10 AM - 9 PM

Sunday: 10 AM - 7 PM
