Do you have Questions about being a Volunteer? See our FAQ's.

Here, we have answers to the most common questions. If you cant find the answer to your question, stop by the Station or fill out the contact form for more information!

Q: How many firehouses are in Trumbull?
A: There are three independent fire companies in the town of Trumbull. The Trumbull Volunteer Fire Co. (Trumbull Center) covers the center of town and has two fire houses, one on White Plains Rd. and the other on Daniels Farm Rd. The other two fire companies are the Long Hill Fire Department on the West side of town and the Nichols Fire Department on the East side of town. Long Hill has three fire houses and Nichols has two fire houses making that a total of seven in the town.

Q: Are all firefighters in Trumbull volunteer?
A: Yes, all firefighters in the town of Trumbull are proud to be volunteers.

Q: How much time is required?
A: During your first few months of membership, it is important that you become involved in drills, training exercises, and company meetings, keeping in mind that family, school and religious events always take precedence. Drills are held every Thursday evening at 19:00 hours at Station One (White Plains Road) or Station Two (Daniels Farm Road). Your assigned station will depend on whichever is closer to your residence. During the first few drills that you attend, you will be assigned gear to be used. This equipment will remain at the station and may or may not be your permanent gear.

Q: Do I qualify to volunteer?
A: If you are fifteen years of age or older, you qualify to be a member of the Trumbull Volunteer Fire Co. Inc. Members between the ages of fifteen and eighteen are considered junior members.

Q: Do I have to fight fires?
A: No, there are also associate memberships available. If fighting fires is not for you, we can tell you about other positions we have where we depend on volunteers, such as administration, social activities and fundraising, etc.

Q: I work full time in Stamford, can I still volunteer?
A: Absolutely, our volunteers respond to emergencies 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Many of our members work out of town and are not available during the day therefore they respond to calls in the evenings and on weekends.

Q: When volunteering, how do I know when there's a call?
A: New members are issued a Motorola pager and charger along with instructions on how to recognize our tone. When the tone goes off, and if you are available, you respond to your respective station to get on the apparatus.

Q: How much money comes out of my pocket?
A: Zero.

Q: How am I trained?
A: We have a number of state instructors on staff who have extensive experience in firefighting and fire instruction. We host a state firefighter certification course once or twice a year. This takes place at our firehouse and usually within our training schedule. This certification is requirement prior to performing structural firefighting.

Q: Does the State Certification count elsewhere.
A: Yes, in fact Nationally! These Instructors and the curriculum used is to the level of national certification to Firefighter I and is recognized up over 35 different states! The training comes free!

Q: Benefits?
A: There are many benefits including Social Events for your family such as an annual dinner dance, Halloween party, Christmas party, etc.

Q: How many alarms does an average firefighter go to.
A: Young people with plenty of time, can go to an many as 300 or more alarms per year. Working people with a family usually go to 1/4 this number and are considered quite active. The choice is yours.

Q: Do you take other family members as well?
